Bronze was such a cool experience. The decor is really gorgeous and I had the oxtail pappardelle which was delicious and fairly light for a pasta dish. The cocktails were delightful and fun and the server was incredibly kind and knowledgeable about the menu. The only reason this is only a 4 start review is because they were out of two of the items I wanted to try.
I'm making it my business to support black-owned restaurants in the DMV. I am also making it a point to give my honest feedback about the customer service and food. I recently visited Bronze for Sunday brunch. I love the restaurant decor and the service was exceptional. The playlist gets two thumbs up. I enjoyed my expresso martini. I would choose the pancakes over the french toast... and the crab salad was light and refreshing. I do recommend this spot and will be visiting again for dinner.
Need a date spot that isn't in the heart of the city but is still a good time? Bronze might be your answer. Their decor goes for this Afrofuturistic vibe, and they have two levels, and a patio outside the top floor. The lighting is quite low, and the tunes are excellent. I first came for their soft opening and had some tasty prawns. I finally made my way back recently with some friends. I had the charred yuzu squid... listen. Normalize herb pesto on squid, because that was an excellent treat. It was extremely light and I could have a whole tray of it (and pay a fortune), but it was soooo good. The staff are super friendly and have a fully stocked bar to make good cocktails and mocktails. Check out their happy hour too -- it's one of those spots where it's literally just an hour, so plan accordingly!
THE BIG: Located on H street right next to the auto zone. 2 story space with the main restaurant and bar on the bottom floor. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here on a Sunday at 6pm and it was pretty quiet. There was a nice jazz session going on the second floor which I recommend to book a reservation for. For food, we got the oxtail pappardelle, sea bass and carrots paired with a bottle of Pinot noir from Australia. The carrots was a small entree (almost appetizer size). Delicious tho. The best was the oxtail pappardelle. Nice Al dente. Sea bass was alright, it had some bones that I accidently swallowed because I thought it was fully deboned. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall, the damage done for 3 entrees and a bottle of wine was ~$150. I was still hungry afterwards but the ambiance of the place is nice.
Bronze is a cute Jazz bar restaurant on H st. Pro Tip: they have live jazz band upstairs on some nights. If you want to enjoy the music, you need to make a reservation in advanced. You should see a table for Jazz, otherwise they will seat you downstairs if it's full. We made day of reservations for 3 and enjoyed our dinner downstairs. We ordered a nice bottle of Pinot noir, sea bass, carrots and oxtail pappardelle. If you're hungry, definitely order more. Overall the food was good, but a bit expensive for what you get. The sea bass also had bones (we were told is was de-bone). Overall, I would come back for cocktails and snacks.
This was my second time visiting Bronze; my first visit was during restaurant week and this time was to celebrate my birthday. During my first visit, we sat downstairs and I had totally forgotten about smith commons until this visit when we were seated upstairs and i remembered the large window. The renovations are incredible-- the new furniture is so complimentary to the earthy tones, which also brought back nostalgic feels as the space remained cozy and intimate. They had just opened their patio but the weather was fugazy, so I settled for a peak of what's to come. For drinks, he had the vesper martini and I had the Pom mocktail. Both drinks were made exceptionally well, flavorful and exactly what the doctor ordered. For starters we did the plantain and squid. The plantain was savory and sweet, I didn't try it but he shared that the accompanying creme fraiche was more than spicy lol. The squid was okay, nothing to run home about. For our mains, the duck was seasoned very well and pretty tender even though there was an uneven cook. The oxtail was also tender, but he complained it was missing that anticipated punch of flavor and wouldn't order it again. We didn't opt for a dessert but was a littttttle disappointed that the only birthday celebration that they do is bring out a candle IF and ONLY IF you order a dessert. But hey, in this economy I don't blame them lol. Overall, a pretty solid dining option. I plan to visit more in the future.
Bronze is a self-described "afrofuturist" restaurant which serves food inspired by the Black diaspora. While I'm personally not well versed, I can tell you that the food is pretty dang good. Bronze features one of the most interesting menus I've seen in a while, with interesting combinations of ingredients. Service was friendly and fast, with dishes came out fairly quickly. The food was overall really good. The prawns were nicely spiced and cooked well. The oxtail had a nice chew to it and the pappardelle was cooked nice and al dente. The star I thought was the torched oysters, simply awesome.
Came for a Valentines Day dinner and had the best experience! We showed up late for our reservation but they were able to accommodate us no problem and we still had plenty of time to eat and relax before their next reservation. It seems they allot about ~2 hours for tables so if you're running late just give them a call and it should be fine. We were seated immediately and not too long after a server came to take drink orders. I had a pornstar martini which was FABULOUS. Kind of an unexpected drink to have on their cocktail menu since they're going for a nicer vibe but it was delicious. I did their tasting menu which was offered through the month of February. Started with torched oysters and wow. I'm not even an oyster person and ordered them in the spirit of vday and was blown away, they were delectable. After the oysters I had carrots with cabbage which were tasty followed by the seabass which was well seasoned and fabulous. For dessert was a deconstructed rum cake that was just okay for me. Considering the quality and fair amount of food, $65 for the tasting menu was a great deal, especially since it included the seabass and oysters. Our service was really friendly and attentive and our server was really funny and conversational. The hostess was also great and took photos of us in the front lobby area. It's a great spot for a date! The ambience is dark and the music wasn't too loud so it was easy to talk. We also really enjoyed the music selection. I was really impressed by the meal and would totally come back. The design of the space left a little to be desired for me. Bronze is advertised as an afrofuturism restaurant following the story of Bronze. I think the story was totally lost in the design and aestetic of the place which felt pretty basic and underwhelming. Design aside, an excellent spot to check out.
I went to Bronze DC on Super Bowl Sunday for drinks with a friend and it was absolutely beautiful. The dark intimate seating is perfect for date night or to simply treat yourself. My friend and I especially went here for the live Jazz that happens on Sunday and they were amazing! Perfect addition to ambiance of the restaurant. The waiter was very attentive and friendly, making sure we had everything we needed before tending to other customers. The pornstar martini drink is probably the best mixed drink I've ever had in my life!! (lol also coming from a 21 year old) But the passion fruit juice was definitely the star of the show and almost tasted like there was no alcohol in the drink. Halfway through it does definitely sneak up on you, lol, but the bartender masks the taste of alcohol so well with the ingredients he incorporated into the drink. I hope to come here for dinner soon and to enjoy the live jazz once again
I went for NYE dinner and the food was on point! I gave 4 stars because the service was extremely slow and our waiter kept emphasizing multiple times that the kitchen closes at 10pm (out reservation was at 9pm). We put in our order and we tried to put in our dessert order but he stated that the kitchen doesn't really need to be open for that. After our meal we tried to order dessert only for him to say the kitchen is closed (again). So we missed out on that. It would've been nice if they stayed open a little later for NyE. They could've curated a nice and chill NYE vibe.
